Job Description
European Students For Liberty is looking for an intern to run the day-to-day operations of the ESFL Buddy Program.
The Buddy Program pairs new Local Coordinators with experienced coordinators to work together over roughly three months and create one concrete deliverable, such as an article, an event, or a campaign. The selected candidate will own the operational side of the program: matching pairs, keeping them active and supported through to a finished project, and helping run the end-of-cycle showcase.
The intern should be prepared to work in a dynamic environment and will finish the internship having gained broad experience in program operations, community engagement, and volunteer management.
The internship is paid.
This is an ongoing role with no fixed end date, starting in August 2026. The first months cover the relaunch of the program and its first full cohort, with the role continuing into the cohorts that follow.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the ESFL Buddy Program
- Match new coordinators with mentors and manage pairings from intake to completion
- Monitor active pairs and support both mentors and newcomers throughout their projects
- Maintain program data and tracking in Google Sheets
- Support mentor engagement, capacity, and the mentor tier system
- Coordinate with the Local Coordinator onboarding process so new coordinators join the program
- Help plan and run the end-of-cycle showcase event
Requirements
- Interpersonal communication skills
- English proficiency
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Reliable, proactive, and detail oriented
- Experience in G-Suite (Sheets, Docs, Gmail, Drive)
- Comfortable actively using AI tools (such as Claude or ChatGPT) as part of everyday work
Preferred, but not required
- Experience coordinating a program, community, or mentorship initiative
- Comfort with data tracking and light automation (for example Google Apps Script)
- Familiarity with volunteer networks or with classical liberal and libertarian ideas
Application Process
Interested candidates should submit a complete resume in PDF format, together with the short task below, to Klára Sasínová at [email protected] by 15 July 2026.
As part of your application, please complete the short task below. We’d rather see how you think than read a long cover letter, so keep it brief, it should take you about 15–20 minutes. You can paste your answer straight into the email or attach it as a PDF.
You’re the intern running the ESFL Buddy Program. A new cohort has just come in: seven new coordinators (newcomers) and four mentors. Your job is to pair them, following these three rules:
- Each pair must be from two different countries.
- Match on shared interest wherever you can.
- A mentor can take no more newcomers than their stated capacity.
Newcomers
| # | Newcomer | Country | Interest |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Aleksandra | Poland | Writing |
| 2 | Bastian | Germany | Event Planning |
| 3 | Chiara | Italy | Writing |
| 4 | Diego | Spain | Social Media |
| 5 | Élise | France | Event Planning |
| 6 | Filip | Czechia | Writing |
| 7 | Georgios | Greece | Public Speaking |
- Aleksandra (Poland, Writing): Joined ESFL this spring; runs a small campus discussion group and wants to start publishing opinion pieces. Proactive, writes confidently in English.
- Bastian (Germany, Event Planning): Has run two local meetups and wants to organize a bigger debate evening next term. Very hands-on, but stretched during the November exam period.
- Chiara (Italy, Writing): Already blogs regularly and writes well; on the shy side and would do best with an encouraging, responsive mentor.
- Diego (Spain, Social Media): Runs the local group’s Instagram and wants to grow its reach; eager, but new to working toward a structured deliverable.
- Élise (France, Event Planning): Co-organized a regional conference; ambitious and full of ideas, occasionally takes on more than she finishes.
- Filip (Czechia, Writing): Newer coordinator still finding his focus; keen to write but needs clear direction to land a finished piece.
- Georgios (Greece, Public Speaking): A confident speaker who wants to build debate workshops; none of the current mentors share this focus.
Mentors
| # | Mentor | Country | Interest | Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lukas | Germany | Writing | 2 |
| 2 | Kasia | Poland | Event Planning | 2 |
| 3 | Marco | Italy | Social Media | 1 |
| 4 | Eleni | Greece | Writing | 1 |
- Lukas (Germany, Writing, cap 2): Experienced LC and a prolific writer; calm, structured, good at coaching first articles. Senior Buddy Mentor.
- Kasia (Poland, Event Planning, cap 2): Has run several flagship events; energetic and very responsive, though in the middle of a busy event season.
- Marco (Italy, Social Media, cap 1): Built one of the region’s strongest social channels; hands-on but limited time, hence a single slot.
- Eleni (Greece, Writing, cap 1): Strong writer but a newer mentor taking her first newcomer; would benefit from a motivated, low-maintenance pairing.
Send us:
- Your pairings as a simple table (newcomer → mentor).
- 2-3 sentences on the hardest call you had to make and how you handled it. If there’s anything you’d check or flag before finalizing the pairings, tell us.
You’re welcome to use AI tools, we use them every day, but the short note should reflect your own reasoning.
That’s all. No cover letter needed.
Applications without both a resume and a completed task will not be considered. We will contact candidates whose applications we wish to consider further for an interview.
