“How are you fighting for freedom in your country?” — a video project by Luís Graça

Published on

This year, Luís Graça, one of our Senior Coordinators from Portugal, decided to seize the opportunity of having attendees from 25 different countries under one roof: by recording interviews with several of them about the issues the local pro-liberty communities care about the most at the moment.

Every year, almost 80 participants from all over Europe, not to mention a few guests from further away, get together for our annual Top Leadership Retreat, where they attend training sessions, learn new skills, network, and exchange ideas.

So far, the series consists of three videos, with our members from Serbia, Spain and the Czech Republic. The topics covered ranged from paternalistic regulation and taxation all the way to the war on drugs, populism, and protectionism

This year, Luís Graça, one of our Senior Coordinators from Portugal, decided to seize the opportunity of having attendees from 25 different countries under one roof: by recording interviews with several of them about the issues the local pro-liberty communities care about the most at the moment.

“I decided to film the videos for our (Portuguese) Instagram page because I wanted to show our followers how SFLers in other countries are fighting for liberty, in order to inspire them: showing them that there are many people like us around the world and that we can win here against the democratic socialist status quo we’ve had for the past 40 years,” Luís explains about what led him to start the video project.

So far, the series consists of three videos, with our members from Serbia, Spain and the Czech Republic. The topics covered ranged from paternalistic regulation and taxation all the way to the war on drugs, populism, and protectionism.

Commenting on the interviews themselves, Luís stated that “all the people I interviewed have very different conceptions of liberty and their countries are at different stages of their journey and struggle for more freedom, we can put our own Portuguese experience in perspective, which is incredible and one of the biggest strengths of having a worldwide community of friends.”

“In the end, what I wanted was to show people that Students For Liberty is composed not only of awesome ideas, but mainly awesome people,” concludes Luís.
