A wave of creativity began in May, when 28 of our students from all around Europe met in Gummersbach, Germany, for our Studio Liberty training. There, they attended several days of sessions centered around video production and social media campaigns, and all the tools one needs to get the message of liberty out there.
During the workshops at the retreat itself, the participants created a number of videos and reels, both educational and entertaining, and used them as content for their teams’ channels, or to start brand new ones. Both of the winning teams in the retreat competition – Hungary in the area of social media campaigns, and Czech Republic in the video category – used their prizes for their subsequent projects. Team Hungary launched an incredibly successful TikTok channel, and the Czech team got to creating short educational Bitcoin videos.
The success of the Hungarian TikTok and Instagram reels, run mostly by the team’s National Coordinator Lautaro Soza, has been especially spectacular – with organic reach only, their TikTok videos gained 162 thousand views from over 132 000 unique viewers, and the activity on their instagram account grew by over 400 percent, bringing in many new attendees to the team’s events, as well as applications by new members.
But that’s not where the wave of creativity ended. Our group in Ilmenau, Germany, was among our first podcasters with their Ground Zero project. Led by Anuraag Nepal, the goal of the project lies “in its commitment to exploring diverse themes that resonate with a broad spectrum of listeners. From basic economic concepts to consumer behavior and global issues such as COVID 19”.
Each podcast episode explored a distinct subject matter, allowing the team to meet the expectations of their diverse audience. Previous episodes explored the question of pandemic restrictions, inflation, or covered the introduction to basic economics. A regular co-host on the podcast is our National Coordinator for Germany Amjad Aun, an experienced public speaker, who spoke at a number of our local events, as well as our largest annual conference on the continent, LibertyCon Europe.
A similar project inspired by team Ilmenau is the Liberty Bell podcast co-run by our Italian students Jacopo Pistorello and Gabriele Marmonti. The duo interviews economists, thinkers, journalists and entrepreneurs about their work and life stories, and their outlook on the – hopefully freer – future.
Still more podcast and video projects are currently being planned by several of our student groups. Our team in Spain is planning to expand to the podcasting world by recording interviews with their speakers, and the students in Portugal have an even bigger ambition – to start an international project, discussing local issues with members of our teams not just across Europe, but around the world.
