Alongside organizing events and campaigns, some of the most important work we do at Students For Liberty is building a strong network of leaders and partners – in a word, a community.
Mariam Jangirashvili, who is now about to graduate Students For Liberty to pursue her career in law, is someone who truly understands the importance of communities to foster good ideas and strong movements. Over nearly three years as our volunteer, she has been working on outreach and building a network across Europe.
Mariam joined our team in Georgia in 2023, and quickly took on leading outreach for all local events and conferences. She also took advantage of Students For Liberty’s bottom-up nature, pitching the idea of forming an international communications team to build a stronger student-driven network of partner organizations.
Because of her initiative, European Students For Liberty formed the Outreach Team – a group of few selected volunteers who excelled at collecting leads, prospecting and developing partnerships in every single European country. The team soon got going, and thus far has supported the launch and growth of 12 new chapters in different corners of the continent.
Since starting the Outreach Team, Mariam alone built relationships with more than a hundred organizations, and helped open new chapters in four countries – Latvia, Estonia, Norway and Bulgaria. Her diligence and work ethic ensured that no potential prospect went overlooked, and no interested student left any of our conferences without getting the chance of speaking to her.
Beyond outreach, Mariam was part of our Georgian chapter’s biggest events: the country-wide economic summer school in 2025, all the Tbilisi Regional Conferences, drawing hundreds of people and tens of partners every year, and events on gender-based violence approached from a human rights perspective.
Mariam’s journey with us is one of great initiative and accomplishments, but also of personal growth. Shorly after joining our programmes, she participated in Why Liberty, our annual public speaking training, which in 2024 took place in Athens, the home of rhetoric. A year later in 2025, she represented European Students For Liberty at the Young Liberals’ Summer School in Riga, where she spoke up in a room full of European and transatlantic partners. And earlier this year, Mariam ran a partnership management workshop of her own for a group of our senior volunteers, teaching others the skills she had herself come to SFL to learn several years before.
While Mariam now joins our Alumni family, the network she helped build throughout her journey remains to advance the ideas of a freer future, and to welcome more students looking for their community, like Mariam was back in 2023.
