Students For Liberty Calls Upon Ending Racial Injustice

Published on

It is with deep regret that the Students For Liberty community observes the recent events that have been unfolding across the United States. The abuse of power in the face of law enforcement bodies has led to a breach of trust in our society and has spewed endless violence.

Students For Liberty expresses our condolences to the family of George Floyd, and everyone who suffered from the brutal and inhumane conduct of the law enforcement officers.

The Students For Liberty community preaches the future that celebrates peace, love, and liberty, which can only be achieved by eliminating unlawful use of force and violent misconduct. Students For Liberty values human life and human dignity regardless of the color of their skin, their religion, sex, geography, creed, social background, or sexuality.

We call upon each government, law enforcement body, police officer, and individual to end the abuse of power, police misconduct, violence, hatred, anger, racism, and injustice that has been prevailing in our society. Ending police brutality can only be done by enforcing transparency, accountability, and limiting the use of police force.

As Dr. Tom G. Palmer, Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute and Executive Vice President for International Programs at the Atlas Network, wrote in his book Self Control or State Control? You Decide,

“The rule of law is an essential ingredient of freedom; each person, including government agents, bears responsibility for observing the rule of law. The rule of law is not the same as issuing or obeying specific edicts, orders, and commands, backed up by force, but entails general rules, such that under the rule of law the government is prevented from stultifying individual efforts by ad hoc action. Freedom is the key to experience responsibility, as responsibility is necessary for the maintenance of freedom.”

At Students For Liberty, we believe that those in positions of power should always be held to the highest possible standards. A very serious and intolerable betrayal of trust occurs when anyone holding the immense responsibility of ensuring the protection of people’s rights abuses this position. It is of vital importance, in a free society, that law enforcement officers are never treated to be above the law.
