By the end of the program, you will have:

Where Our Alumni Are

Start with Your Campus

Everything you need to lead on campus—and beyond.

F.A. Hayek, one of the greatest defenders of liberty, had a powerful insight:

❝ Ideas shape the world—from the classroom to the halls of power.

That means the battle for freedom doesn’t start in Congress. It starts in the classroom. And right now, too many universities are echo chambers for bad ideas: statism, censorship, collectivism.
We’re here to change that.

You’ll learn how to build a pro-liberty student group, host bold events, and challenge the status quo with confidence and purpose.

You won’t be alone. We’ll train, mentor, and support you every step of the way. Because when you win hearts and minds on campus, the ripple effects reach far beyond it.

And your campus could be next.

Who We Are

Students For Liberty started in 2008 with a small student gathering at Columbia University. The goal? Help pro-liberty students connect, collaborate, and grow.

The first event was planned for 30 students. Despite a blizzard, 100 showed up. That was the spark.

Today, we’re the largest international pro-liberty student organization in the world, providing young leaders with the training, community, and resources they need to stand up for liberty—and build freer societies.

We embrace diverse justifications for liberty, from classical liberalism to libertarianism, and we welcome civil debate and intellectual curiosity.

Our mission is to equip the next generation of thinkers, doers, and changemakers with the tools to advance freedom—on campus and beyond.

FAQs

Nothing happens. Your commitment depends entirely on your own effort. We’re all students, and we understand that college life can get complicated. One of SFL’s biggest advantages compared to other organizations is that we will never tell you what to do you participate at the pace that works for you.
You’ll lead high-impact projects on your campus, host events, participate in cohort sessions and join a network of ambitious student leaders across North America. Throughout the program, you’ll receive personalized training, one-on-one mentoring, and access to exclusive opportunities — including internships, conferences, and direct connections with professionals, academics, and activists in the liberty movement. You choose your focus, your pace, and the projects you want to build. The program gives you the platform; the impact is yours.

You decide how involved you want to be whether that means running a single event each semester or building a major project with your House. The structure is flexible, designed to fit around your academic schedule while still giving you access to trainings, networking, and professional opportunities whenever you want to take them.

The program runs year-round. Most students stay for multiple semesters because of the opportunities it unlocks retreats, internships, trainings, and a strong professional network.
You must be a current college student, from freshmen to PhD candidates. That’s it. There are no GPA requirements, no major restrictions, and no prior activism needed. We’re looking for students who are driven, curious, and ready to grow. If you have the motivation, we’ll give you the tools.
Just fill out the application form on our website. It takes only a few minutes. Once you submit it, our team will review your answers and invite you to a short interview. If accepted, you’ll receive onboarding, your SFL email, and immediate access to your House and the wider network of student leaders across North America.
SFL is a student-led organization, so only current students can join the Local Coordinator Program. However, professors are welcome to collaborate, support campus projects, or connect students with opportunities. Many faculty members work closely with our chapters as advisors or event partners.
You can reach our team directly through the contact form on the North American website. A member of the North American Programs staff will follow up and help you with anything you need regarding the application or the program.
