Content Writer & Cultural Strategist

About the Organization

Students For Liberty (SFL) is the largest pro-liberty student organization in the world, with students active in over 100 countries across every inhabited continent. With a multi-million-dollar budget, we empower pro-liberty students to become leaders advancing freedom in their communities.

SFL is an entirely virtual, entrepreneurial organization driven by collaboration, excellence, and purpose. We combine flexibility with meaningful work, providing our team members with autonomy, professional development, and the opportunity to make a tangible global impact. Working for SFL means joining a results-oriented team that values innovation, accountability, and the mission of advancing liberty worldwide.

About the Role

Students For Liberty is seeking a Libertarian Content Writer & Cultural Strategist to join our Global Marketing Team.

This isn’t a traditional marketing role. We’re looking for someone who lives at the intersection of classical liberal ideas and contemporary culture—someone who can watch a K-pop video, read Hayek, and draw a connection that makes Gen Z say, “Wait, tell me more.”

What we actually do: We generate over 280 million organic impressions annually by taking libertarian and classical liberal ideas and translating them into content that resonates with today’s young people. We don’t lecture. We tell stories. We dramatize intellectual battles. We find the “take” that makes centuries-old ideas feel urgent and relevant right now.

Your role: You’ll write briefings for Instagram carousels and X threads that do exactly this. You’ll be supervised directly by our Marketing Director and learn how a successful global marketing team operates. However, the ideas, connections, and “takes” must come from you.

The growth path: In your first 90 days, you’ll execute our content calendar, writing five carousel briefings and five threads per week. By month six, you’ll contribute to strategy, suggesting themes, identifying cultural moments we should address, and bringing your own “takes” to the table.

Who Should Apply

You’re the right fit if:

  • You’re genuinely nerdy about classical liberal ideas (Hayek, Friedman, Sowell, Rand, Bastiat, von Mises, etc.). You’ve read them, argued about them, and thought deeply about them. This isn’t something you can learn quickly on the job.
  • You’re extremely online and culturally fluent. You know what’s happening in the zeitgeist. You can navigate between internet subcultures, understand what makes something “go viral,” and identify moments where liberty ideas can break through.
  • You can storytell facts. You understand that “Keynes vs. Hayek” sounds like a snoozefest to most people—but a dramatic intellectual battle between two titans shaping the modern world? That’s compelling.
  • You’re a strong writer who can adapt tone and style. One day, you’re writing something provocative for X. The next day, you’re crafting a carefully structured Instagram carousel that educates while entertaining.
  • You’re not locked in yesterday’s battles. You can meet this generation where they are, with the aesthetic and language that actually resonates, without compromising on ideas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write 5 Instagram carousel briefings per week (structure, key points, narrative flow)
  • Write 5 X threads per week (complete draft ready for review)
  • Follow and help maintain the content calendar
  • Monitor cultural moments and news cycles for content opportunities
  • Connect classical liberal ideas to contemporary issues and pop culture
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure content aligns with our lead generation goals
  • Build and maintain performance dashboards for your content
  • Graduate from execution to strategy contribution over your first six months

Required Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of classical liberal and libertarian literature, thinkers, and ideas (non-negotiable)
  • Strong commitment to SFL’s mission of advancing liberty, free markets, and peace
  • Advanced English proficiency (written and spoken)
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, persuasively, and adapt to different formats
  • Cultural awareness and ability to identify/navigate the zeitgeist
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Comfort working in a fully remote, autonomous environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating social media content (especially Instagram carousels and X threads)
  • Familiarity with SFL’s work and global initiatives
  • Understanding of how younger generations (Gen Z) engage with ideas and content
  • Ability to leverage AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) to enhance productivity
  • Experience with Agile methodologies or project management tools

What We Offer

  • Fully remote: Work from anywhere in the world
  • Flexible schedule: 40 hours/week with extremely flexible hours that fit your life
  • 3+ weeks paid time off: Extremely flexible PTO policy
  • Global community: Join an international team of staff from every corner of the globe
  • Career advancement: Clear growth path within the organization as you develop
  • Professional development grants: Access to SFL grants to grow your skills through courses, conferences, and training;
  • Get paid to spread the values of liberty: Your work directly advances freedom worldwide
  • Meaningful reach: Your content will generate millions of impressions and shape how young people understand freedom
  • Clear progression: Move from execution (first 90 days) to strategic contribution (6 months) to potentially greater responsibility
  • Direct mentorship: Work closely with our Marketing Director to learn proven systems
  • Collaborative culture: Join professionals who are passionate about both excellence and liberty
  • Autonomy with support: Freedom to present ideas and contribute, with guidance to ensure success

What to Expect

You’ll work closely with our Marketing Director, especially in the first 90 days as you learn our systems, voice, and approach. Everything you create will be reviewed initially; this is about setting you up for success, not micromanagement.

As you demonstrate strong judgment and cultural instincts, you’ll gain more autonomy and strategic input. By month six, we want you contributing ideas to the content calendar, not just executing it.

This role contributes to our goal of generating thousands of qualified leads for SFL’s programs, but success is a team effort. You’re part of a marketing engine, not responsible for the whole machine.
