Washington, D.C., October 3, 2023 – Students For Liberty, the largest global pro-liberty student organization, has two new speakers to announce for their flagship event, LibertyCon International 2024. The event will take place at the prestigious Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C., from February 2-4, 2024 and is expected to be one of the premier liberty events of the year.
On top of an already loaded roster come two more heavy hitters in the liberty movement.
Returning to LibertyCon is five-term congressman Justin Amash, who served as the representative for Michigan’s 3rd congressional district from 2011 to 2021. Throughout his tenure in Congress, Amash earned a reputation as a staunch fiscal conservative, consistently advocating for reduced deficits and a balanced budget. In 2011, he co-founded the House Liberty Caucus, a group of libertarian-leaning Republican members of Congress that championed principles such as limited government, individual liberty, and a non-interventionist foreign policy. Additionally, Amash stood out for his unwavering opposition to the Patriot Act and government surveillance programs conducted by the National Security Agency, underscoring his commitment to safeguarding civil liberties and privacy rights.
Amash made headlines in 2019 when he became the first Republican member of Congress to publicly call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. In April of 2020, he officially switched his party affiliation to Libertarian, thereby becoming the party’s first (and so far, only) member of Congress. Throughout his congressional career, Amash consistently demonstrated his commitment to transparency by providing comprehensive explanations of his positions to constituents. He notably engaged with his constituency through detailed explanations of his votes posted on Facebook and by conducting numerous town hall meetings that allowed for direct and open dialogue with the people he served.
Also announced to feature at LibertyCon is Rick Rule, a widely respected figure in the field of natural resource investing. Renowned for his significant contributions to the field, he stands as the founder of Global Resource Investments and formerly served as the President and CEO of Sprott US Holdings. Mr. Rule’s lifelong dedication has encompassed all facets of the natural resource industry, including the provision of financial backing to multiple exploration and mining companies.
Students For Liberty CEO Dr. Wolf von Laer affirmed that “Rick has been a strong supporter of Students For Liberty since our inception in 2008. His unwavering commitment to our cause over the years has been invaluable.” Earlier this year, Mr. Rule assumed a position on the Board of Directors at Students For Liberty.
