Local Coordinator Program

The Students For Liberty Local Coordinator Program is the premier program for actively advancing the ideas of free markets and individual liberty on college campuses.

SFL Local Coordinators (LCs), both undergraduate and graduate students, are the face of liberty on their college campuses. They are the muscle of the movement, empowering students in their areas to defend the ideas of liberty.

(a) Local Coordinator Program: This is the entry level of becoming a leader with Students For Liberty and the premier program for actively advancing the ideas of ideas and free markets and individual liberty in colleges and campuses around Africa. The Local Coordinators are the face of liberty in their campuses, they are the muscle of the movement, empowering students in their areas to defend the ideas of liberty. This grassroots program seeks out strong student leaders to spread the ideas of individual liberty, self-reliance, and economic freedom by starting new student groups, organizing events to promote these ideas and mentoring other vibrant students to assume leadership positions in the global students’ movement for liberty.

The course is designed to train an all-round leader by imparting skills in areas such as public speaking, professionalism, advocacy, proposal and report writing, effective communication (both verbal and written), event organizing, talent identification and so much more absolutely FREE! Trained leaders gain access to writing opportunities, leadership programs, get into internships and all-year-round seminars and conferences with our international network of partners.

Interested students and recent graduates are invited to apply and thereafter successful applicants will go through two levels of training and an interview with one of our top leaders before being confirmed as a Local Coordinator. The training is available in English, French & Portuguese languages. 

(b) National Coordinator Program: Leaders interested in learning management are invited to apply for this is a mid-level leadership role where top performing leaders learn management skills. Leaders at this level serve as main point of contacts in the country which they are based in and help the ASFL admin team connect leaders to resources, SFL policies and provide support for the local activities hosted by LCs on campus. These leaders assist with the growth of SFL activities at the country level and identification of upcoming leaders. These students get the opportunity to practise the skills they learn and improve themselves with the support and tools that SFL provides. The National Coordinator is the point of contact for ASFL volunteers in a specific country or region, in charge of coordinating the activities of Local Coordinators, assisting with the local growth of African Students For Liberty in their region and the identification of future top leaders.

(c) Regional Coordinator Program: This is the highest level of leadership at African Students For Liberty reserved for the rock star leaders who manage different capabilities in the East, West, Southern, and Francophone Regions we have at ASFL. Regional Coordinators undergo rigorous training after careful selection to prepare them for their roles and management of our activities in Africa. It is from this group that we have future think tank leaders, potential SFL staff and also staff for other libertarian think tanks around the world. The Regional Coordinators are responsible for our principal programs in Africa, and growing the student movement for liberty: providing resources to students across the continent, organizing regional conferences, coordinator retreats, and helping develop leaders of liberty around the continent.

(d) ASFL Reading Challenge: ASFL Reading Challenge is an academic program designed to help nurture young leaders’ knowledge of classical liberal ideas, explore how these ideas relate to contemporary experiences in respective African countries and prepare them for diverse career directions in policy, advocacy, business management, entrepreneurship, technology, journalism, academics and so on. They do this by studying pro-liberty texts and watching videos every month. Afterward, they are hosted to a bi-monthly virtual meeting to share their key insights from the book of the month. The program rewards active participants through incentives such as free books, T-shirts, Trucker Caps, scholarships to regional and international SFL events. 

Strong student leaders needed to spread the ideas of a free society

This grassroots program seeks out strong student leaders to spread the ideas of a free society by starting new pro-liberty student groups, organizing events to promote the ideas of liberty, providing resources to student groups, and identifying and mentoring other pro-liberty students. The LC Program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. The LC Program has gone on to inspire similar programs around the globe, in places like Latin America, Europe, Africa, and South Asia. Students in the CC Program have the unique opportunity to advance liberty and develop their skills with like-minded individuals from around the world as we work together to achieve a free future for everyone.

Ideal Candidates Will Have the Following Qualities

The Local Coordinator Program is highly competitive, and designed for the top student leaders in Africa. All members of SFL’s Local Coordinator Program must be current university students (undergraduate or graduate) in Africa.

Applicants interested in becoming a Local Coordinators should be able to dedicate 5-10 hours per week to the program for one academic year. Successful applicants will be professional, personable and excellent communicators.


At least 1 year of leadership experience in a pro-liberty student group;
Ability to manage multiple projects at once;
Looking to develop their own skillsets;
Strong self-motivation to complete projects with little to no oversight;
A passion for the ideas of liberty and for organizing to make the world a freer place; and
Enjoy staying up until 2am talking to other students about how to advance liberty
