Students Plan Protest in Nigeria Against Proposed Central Bank Digital Currency

Published on

MCLEAN, VA., December 22, 2022 – Students For Liberty is organizing a protest to raise awareness about the sinister motives behind the Central Bank of Nigeria’s plans to introduce a state-controlled central bank digital currency (CBDC). The event will be held on Friday, 23 December 2022, at 10am, and will be staged in Ibadan, Nigeria at the Bodija International Market, Oyo State

The protest will see over one hundred volunteers aiming to reach around one million Nigerians with a message on the imminent loss of privacy that would result should the Central Bank of Nigeria proceed with pushing through the e-naira, along with their recent Naira redesign and cash withdrawal limit policies.

In 2022, inflation – both in Nigeria and across the globe – is a hot topic. It is an issue that causes great distress to many people. With the rising costs of basic essentials, living costs are skyrocketing, pushing more and more people towards poverty. Students For Liberty believes that governments should  take more responsibility for this sad situation and pursue more sound monetary policy.

Students For Liberty would like to invite everyone to follow this event using the hashtags #FinancialPrivacy and #NairaRedesign and expand their knowledge on inflation and Central Bank Digital Currencies.
