Repurpose is a student-led environmental education and waste-management initiative operating under the Green Liberty framework of Students For Liberty. The project addresses Nepal’s growing plastic and solid waste crisis by promoting practical, community-based approaches to waste reduction, reuse, and environmental responsibility, with a strong focus on youth leadership and creativity.

Nepal faces increasing plastic consumption, limited recycling infrastructure, and low public awareness around waste segregation and reuse. Schools and local communities often lack hands-on environmental education, which contributes to pollution, public health risks, and environmental degradation, especially in rapidly urbanizing and ecologically sensitive areas. This gap limits the ability of young people to translate environmental awareness into daily practice.

The project delivers hands-on waste segregation sessions, creative reuse and upcycling workshops, and student-led environmental activities that turn discarded materials into functional and artistic products. These activities demonstrate low-cost, scalable alternatives to single-use plastics while encouraging long-term behavioral change. Community engagement and advocacy components reinforce learning beyond the classroom and connect environmental action with civic responsibility.

The primary target audience is students and youth in schools and local communities across Nepal. By working directly with young people and community members, Repurpose positions youth as environmental stewards and supports the development of sustainable habits that can be replicated in different regions of the country.

• Reduce plastic and solid waste pollution in participating schools and communities through creative reuse activities.
