(In Memoriam)
David Boaz was the executive vice president of the Cato Institute and one of the most influential figures in the development of the modern libertarian movement. A leading authority on education choice, drug legalization, the growth of government, and the rise of libertarianism, he was the author of Libertarianism: A Primer, described by the Los Angeles Times as “a well-researched manifesto of libertarian ideas,” the editor of The Libertarian Reader, and coeditor of the Cato Handbook for Policymakers. His writing appeared in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, National Review, and Slate.
David served as an Advisor to Students For Liberty and was a steadfast champion of young people in the liberty movement until his passing on June 7, 2024. His legacy lives on at SFL through the David Boaz Impact Project of the Year Award, presented annually to the student-led Impact Project that best embodies his vision of a freer world.
