Benaya Cherlow, a third-year student in the honor track for decision-making and strategy and the Rubinstein program for leadership for constitutional challenges at Reichman University and our Local Coordinator from Israel, has been recognized as one of the 75 young and promising individuals in Israel for the 75th Independence Day celebratory issue of the Channel 14 magazine.
“The magazine recognized my unwavering dedication and active participation in various student activities, particularly those centered around public policy and economics, as well as my research articles in these areas,” explains Benaya. “My involvement with Students For Liberty played a pivotal role in amplifying our collective voice on campus and within the broader Israeli community. Alongside these accomplishments, I also initiated a project for children with Down syndrome and served as an officer in the military for four years. The magazine sought individuals who could leverage their past achievements to propel them towards future success, and I remain optimistic that the groundwork I have laid will serve as a solid foundation for my future endeavors.”
Benaya, who is currently a 2023 Prometheus Fellow, has made significant contributions beyond academics. Apart from his Students For Liberty activities on events and recruitment campaigns in and out of his country, he has been actively involved in various student organizations, serving as the spokesperson for the Student Union.
He spoke at a number of events, and as the winner of our public speaking contest at the end of Students For Liberty’s “Why Liberty” training in February this year, Benaya was selected to speak also at LibertyCon 2023 in Lisbon, the largest annual gathering of friends of liberty on the continent, where he gave a talk on China’s siege mentality.
In May 2023, he interned at the Institute of Economic Affairs in London. He later relocated to Washington to assume the role of staff adviser to US Congressman Brad Schneider. In this capacity, Benaya will focus on foreign relations, the Middle East, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict while pursuing a master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University. Around the same time, Benaya joined the Leap fundraising training with Students For Liberty co-founder Alexander McCobin.
We look forward to seeing how Benaya applies these skills and experiences to his future work for a freer future.
