Political discourse has always been contentious. With the possible exception of religion, politics is the field in which we are often most committed to our position, and least willing to even listen to opposing views, let alone entertain the possibility that such views might have merit.
But how much of that fire is fuelled by a misunderstanding – and in some cases an international misuse – of key concepts on major issues? What would clarity on such concepts require?
