A Liberty Fund Conference with Alumni For Liberty

Advanced Seminar on Economic
Development

APRIL 28-30, 2023

Alumni For Liberty is organizing a seminar about economic development in partnership with Liberty Fund.

Alumni involved in the field of development – from policymakers to think tank leaders – are eligible to apply. The seminar will take place from April 28-30, 2023.

The seminar will take place at a breathtaking location next to the bright and beautiful Caribbean Sea in Cartagena, Colombia. Every admitted participant will receive full funding covering airfare, hotel, meals, and material. They will also receive a stipend to compensate for their participation.

About fifteen exceptional alumni will be selected. Applicants will be admitted on a rolling basis.

The person leading this seminar is Jorge Jraissati at [email protected], director of Alumni For Liberty.

Over 3 days of immersive dialogue, workshop, learning, and networking the seminar will provide participants with the knowledge and skill to work on today’s most pressing issues related to economic development. Our goal is that such experience will allow the participants to have an even bigger impact in their respective economies.

The seminar will begin by covering the subject of economic development in general, including issues related to institutional economics, structural reform, and policy implementation. It will then pay special attention to Latin America and its experience implementing various development models during the last decades.

The economist leading the discussion will be Dr. Keith Jakee, a professor at Florida Atlantic University and a researcher at Duke University. The seminar’s reading list includes works from authors with different perspectives on the issue of economic development. The list includes Daron Acemoglu, Dani Rodrik, Deirdre Mccloskey, Moises Naim, Jeffrey Sachs, and William Easterly, among others.

The seminar will be conducted in English. Participants are therefore expected to have basic English communication skills.
