Md Tasnimul Hassan

Md Tasnimul Hassan is currently a third-year B.A.LL.B. (Honours) student at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He cites John Locke’s theory of natural rights to argue that governments have only limited powers over their citizens. He was first drawn to the ideas of liberty while writing a critique of Lysander Spooner’s “Vices Are Not Crimes” which culminated into him developing interests in J.S. Mill’s work on individualism. His interests lie somewhere between the intersection of constitutional rights and sanctions, and the legal and constitutional history. He is passionate about and thus aims to advocate individual liberty. He often finds himself researching and writing about the nuances of criminal justice, overcriminalisation, and human rights and has a career interest in appellate and trial advocacy. His intellectual influences include John Locke, Jeremy Bentham, J.S. Mill, Robert Nozick and Ilya Somin.
