“Students For Liberty is having a worldwide impact, it's affecting tens of thousands, and, eventually, hundreds of thousands and millions of young people who will create the future.
I don't know how I can spend my time or my philanthropy dollars that I give to the freedom movement any more effectively than by giving them to SFL."

If you frequent social media, you’re bound to encounter posts from Gen Z or Millennials expressing their concerns about the state of the world. The voice of today’s youth often leans towards complaining about problems, rather than actively seeking ways to solve them.
At times, it may seem like the ambition to address challenges, innovate, and truly flourish is diminishing among the next generation. And there’s a reason for this. From a young age, many are taught an ideology that governmental intervention is the ultimate solution to society’s problems. It’s an ideology that government regulation, restrictions, and taxes are the solution to all societal ills, and it’s common at levels of education. Disturbingly, studies have shown that 70% of millennials and Gen Z have said they would consider voting for socialist candidates.
To truly address these misguided notions, we must target them at their roots: within educational institutions. It’s a fact that ideas cultivated on college campuses resonate throughout society. These students, after all, are the future leaders and influencers, capable of steering the course of our world.
This is precisely the mission of SFL.
Our Local Coordinators, spread globally, are actively organizing events, educating their peers, participating in activism, and continuously honing their skills. Their objective? To emerge from their academic years not just as critics but as architects — architects of freedom and liberty.
That’s how we win.

At Students For Liberty, we fully embrace F.A. Hayek’s “Theory of Social Change.”
F.A. Hayek, an influential Austrian author and dedicated liberal, devoted a significant portion of his intellectual life to studying the inner workings of societies. He delved deep into understanding how ideas gain influence and shape a nation. In today’s world, there is a prevalent belief that big government is the answer to all problems. We challenge this notion.
Hayek astutely recognized that the prevailing ideas in society don’t emerge out of thin air. They take root in universities, spread among intellectuals, transform into political movements, and ultimately permeate partisan politics.
This realization underscores the importance of transforming universities if we truly want to effect change in a country. That’s why, at SFL, we invest our efforts in cultivating leaders who are unwavering in their defense of liberty. Our program participants are university students on the cusp of launching their professional careers.
In just one generation, these university students will rise to the pinnacle of their respective fields. They will become business leaders, judges, politicians, doctors, tenured professors, economists, and other influential figures. They hold the potential to be the future leaders of our society, and they can champion the cause of freedom.
This strategic approach inspired Margaret Thatcher to confidently place a copy of Hayek’s groundbreaking work, “The Constitution of Liberty,” on the cabinet meeting table, boldly declaring, “This is what we believe in.”
However, as Thatcher and Hayek acknowledged, this task is far from easy. We must confront the entrenched interests that thrive on maintaining an overgrown state apparatus. We must challenge the massive financial resources controlled by unions and grapple with the influence of companies that depend on government contracts. Additionally, we must engage in and win intellectual battles against those who harbor contempt for the principles of liberty.
The exciting news is that this transformation is already underway! The first cohort of liberty leaders trained by SFL is making significant strides in shaping the world around them. We invite you to join us as we share a few of their inspiring stories.

We’ll let a donor answer that: “SFL is the long-term source of liberty. […] Trying to instill more freedom in a country without addressing universities is a Sisyphean effort. And SFL, as expected, educates about the beauty/importance of respecting individual freedom voluntarily. It means more freedom in the ‘ends’ but also in the ‘means.'”
