In October the University of Michigan College Libertarians launched a campaign to fight the university’s new campus wide smoking ban. The UM CL’s protested on the Diag, brought in speakers, and wrote letters to the editor of the school newspaper. Now their efforts are receiving national attention.
Today Time Magazine ran a story on Time.com on how school across America are imposing smoking bans and how students are pushing back. Jonathan Slemrod, President of the UM CLs, was quoted in the article:
Naturally, there has been pushback from students. “Where do we draw the line between a culture of health and individual choice?” asks Jonathan Slemrod, a University of Michigan senior and president of the school’s College Libertarians. “If they truly want a culture of health, I expect them to go through all our cafeterias and get rid of all our Taco Bells, all our pizza places.”
