Special congratulations goes out to SFL Exec Board member, Liya Palagashvili, who was awarded first place in the Transform Americas essay contest. The contest honored Milton Friedman’s birthday and recognized and encouraged scholarship on Chile’s economic reforms as an example for the Americas.
Her essay, “Milton Friedman’s Ideas in Action: Privatizing Social Security in Chile as a Model for the United States” provides an argument for how the U.S. can successfully reform the Social Security. As Liya writes, “The United States is now where Chile was thirty years ago. With the application of Friedman’s ideas on the U.S. Social Security system, the United States would be yet another success story that is much needed in today’s world.” Read her full essay here.
