Today’s Student Event of the Year Nominee Profile is of the Cato Speaker Series, hosted by the DC Forum For Freedom.
The DCFF is a coalition of pro-liberty student groups in the Washington, DC area. The group is made up of members from American University, George Washington University, Northern Virginia Community College, Howard University, Georgetown University, the University of Maryland, and George Mason University. The purpose of the DC Forum is to increase inter-group cooperation and combine forces to strengthen the student movement for liberty.
This past fall the DC Forum began a joint project with the Cato Institute to host the Cato on Campus Speaker Series. Once per month the DC Forum members travel from across the region to the Cato Institute for to hear lectures from renowned scholars. This past semester’s speakers included David Boaz, Dan Mitchell, and Dan Griswold. Following the lectures, the students would convene for a social event where the students could interact one-on-one with Cato scholars and staff, sharing knowledge and experience on how to fight the battle for liberty on campus.
DC Forum students leaders as Irena Schneider, Nick Zaiac, Dennis Craig, Liya Palagashvili, and Able Roasa worked
together to make these events possible. Their joint efforts towards organizing, advertising, and executing these events are a testament to what can be done when student leaders put their minds to working together to turn an idea into reality.
