2009 Conference

Overview

The Second Annual International Students For Liberty Conference will be held at George Washington University (Washington D.C.), from February 20-22, 2009. The conference is the premiere event of the year for students dedicated to liberty with speeches from some of the key leaders of liberty today and opportunities to discuss how to promote liberty with other students. Keynote Speakers

Yon Goicoechea, recipient of the Cato Institute’s 2008 Milton Friedman Prize for Advancing Liberty. Cato provides this summary of Yon: “A 23-year-old law student, Mr. Goicoechea plays a pivotal role in organizing and voicing opposition to the erosion of human and civil rights in his country. In his commitment to a modern Venezuela, Goicoechea emphasizes tolerance and the human right to seek prosperity.

Nick Gillespie, editor in chief of Reason.tv and Reason.com. Prior to his current role, Mr. Gillespie served as editor in chief of Reason magazine from 2000 to 2008, during which time Reason won the 2005 Western Publications Association “Maggie” Award for Best Political Magazine.

Robert A. Levy, chairman of the Cato Institute’s board of directors. Mr. Levy joined Cato as senior fellow in constitutional studies in 1997 after 25 years in business. Mr. Levy is well known for his recent work in putting together the lawsuit that resulted in the famous U.S. Supreme Court case, D.C. v. Heller, in which the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms. After his speech, Mr. Levy will be autographing copies of his new book, The Dirty Dozen: How Twelve Supreme Court Cases Radically Expanded Government and Eroded Freedom.
