We are thrilled to announce the Dr. Sharon Presley, longtime libertarian activist and national coordinator of the Association of Libertarian Feminists, will be speaking at the 2011 International Students For Liberty Conference.  She will be speaking on “How Government Harms Women and Non-Harmful Alternatives”.

Here is Dr. Presley’s biography:

Dr. Sharon Presley is a longtime libertarian/anarchist activist and writer. She is the co-founder and former co-proprietor of Laissez Faire Books, the world’s largest libertarian bookstore.  She is the founder and Executive Director of Resources for Independent Thinking, a nonprofit educational organization, and the National Coordinator of the Association of Libertarian Feminists. Her articles have appeared in Liberty, Reason, Inquiry and Laissez Faire Review.

Dr. Presley has written and spoken extensively on obedience and resistance to authority. She is the author of Standing Up to Experts and Authorities: How to Avoid Being Intimidated, Manipulated, and Abused, a practical how-to toolkit, and is the co-editor of Exquisite Rebel: The Essays of Voltairine de Cleyre. She is currently working on an anthology titled They Said No: 19th Century American Women Resisters to Authority.

Her Ph.D. in social psychology is from the City University of New York Graduate Center where her mentor was Stanley Milgram, author of the classic study, Obedience to Authority. Her dissertation was a study of political resisters compared to political activists who were not resisters.
