Campus Coordinators

CCP Title Bar 2Description

The SFL Campus Coordinators Program (CCP) is a year-long program that offers leadership positions to high-quality, high-potential students to provide them with the resources, incentives, and inspiration to organize other pro-liberty students and student groups in their areas. CCs will serve as a new leadership tier in the SFL organization, providing local support for pro-liberty students and groups.

In the spring of 2010 SFL will choose a select number of students to be CCs.  Then throughout the spring and summer new CCs will be trained in student outreach, organization, and communication techniques culminating in a training retreat in Washington, DC in July.  After that CCs will be sent out to find to new students and assist existing student groups in their local areas throughout the summer of 2010.   In the fall the CCs  will continue to engage in significant student outreach and leadership training in their assigned regions, then continue to serve as a support resource for the students and student groups in their area throughout the entire 2010-2011 school year.

Why become a SFL Campus Coordinator?

The CC position is an intensive obligation taken on by every person who becomes a CC. At the same time, however, it comes with many benefits including:

  1. Resources to Promote Liberty – The CC position will provide an opportunity for students passionate about liberty to direct their passion at a realistic, highly valuable cause, using SFL’s network, resources, and finances to hold events and support groups in their area.
  2. Free Trip to DC – All CCs will attend a 3-day Training Retreat in Washington, DC to prepare for their upcoming responsibilities. Travel, housing, meals will all be covered to make sure that every CC is able to attend and get the most out of the retreat. The retreat will include specialized sessions with leaders of liberty, informational sessions from pro-liberty organizations on what resources are available for students, and advanced leadership workshops. (The retreat will take place from July 23-25 so be sure to reserve this weekend in your schedule if you are applying for a CC position.)
  3. SFL Conference Travel Stipends – SFL will provide travel stipends to each CC to be able to attend their nearest SFL Regional Conference in Fall 2010 and the International SFL Conference in 2011.
  4. Advanced Leadership Training – CCs will receive in-depth leadership training from SFL to prepare them not only for the CC position, but future efforts to promote liberty. This training will come in the form of a summer CC Training Retreat, monthly webinars tailored to CC needs throughout the year, and additional leadership trips.
  5. Internship Recommendations – SFL will help continue CCs talent development by referring them to internships for liberty and assisting them in the process of being selected.
  6. Letter of Recommendation – As SFL’s reputation grows, so does the value of our endorsements of students. CCs who perform well will receive strong LORs for pro-liberty internships and jobs.
  7. Connections to Other Opportunities – CCs will receive priority in being recommended to and nominated for special opportunities that SFL develops with partner organizations (e.g. the State Policy Network Annual Conference, FreedomFest, Cato University, etc.).
  8. Filling a Crucial Role in the Student Movement for Liberty – To date, SFL has developed a strong international leadership structure that interacts with students in a virtual capacity. The CC position complements this support for the student movement by providing grassroots organizing and support that will produce greater regional coordination and cooperation between pro-liberty student groups. So what is the most important reason to be CC? To take the student movement for liberty to a greater level than ever before.

CC Responsibilities

CCP ActivistCCs will primarily be responsible for the following efforts during the 2010-2011 school year:

  1. Identify new pro-liberty students
  2. Start new pro-liberty student groups (both general liberty and single-issue)
  3. Provide training for groups in the SFL network
  4. Connect students with pro-liberty opportunities
  5. Help organize a regional conference

Additional responsibilities and projects may be given to CCs based on interests and abilities.  The most important thing to note about CC responsibilities is that CCs must be creative and capable enough to take their own initiative to promote liberty to other students and campuses in their area without having their hand held.  In the end, each CC’s responsibility is to promote liberty on the campuses in their area however they can.

Who Should Apply

Any current student or recent graduate (within 3 years of graduating) may apply to become a CC. Ideal candidates will be students or alumni already in the SFL network, who have shown a passion for liberty and promoting liberty to other students, who are connected with other students in their region already, who are outgoing and able to maintain relationships with others in their area, and who show strong potential for being a long-term leader of liberty. This position is for the student or alumnus who loves liberty and has wanted to be an integral component in the cause of liberty, but simply has not had the resources or infrastructure to support them in this effort.

Note: You should NOT apply to become a CC is you are looking for a part time job or just for something to do. This is unpaid and is a commitment not to be taken lightly.

If you are interested in becoming a CC, please complete the CC Application below.  Strong candidates will be invited to participate in a phone interview and additional materials may be requested during the selection process.  Applications for CC positions will close at 11:59pm EST on April 16 and all CCs will be selected by April 30th.
